Ruby’s Red Shoes is about a little girl’s navigation through the first day of school. Ruby was born with a disability which makes the simplest of daily tasks challenging. Ruby does not let it stop her or phase her the least bit. Her focus is on something completely different, her new red school shoes, while she proves to herself and those around her that she can keep a smile on her face, joy in her heart, and a fierceness in her soul. Because of her confidence and outlook, Ruby is a champion!

Unique and Beautiful is a series about embracing one’s differences whether physically or emotionally based on the lifestyle of their surrounding diversity. We all discover challenges throughout our lives, but at some point we need to wrap our arms around those challenges and use them as a stepping stone for success. The intention of my series is to expand the notion of “normal” by talking about diversity with children, holding those conversations about how ALL body types, ways of moving, communicating, thinking and behaving are normal and healthy. The Unique and Beautiful series is based on my life as a disabled woman, married during a time my husband served in the military, and raising two very strong children of my own with minimal use of my arms and hands. I base the characters on my grandchildren. May they always celebrate their uniqueness and find the beauty in the diversity of each individual human being.
